Khancoban Pondage

Khancoban Khancoban New South Wales

Khancoban Pondage is a popular spot for fishing, boating and relaxing by the water.

A convenient concrete boat ramp provides easy access for all types of boats, making it simple to get out on the lake and enjoy everything this scenic destination has to offer.

Nestled at the foot of Australia's highest mountains, Khancoban Pondage is a picturesque three-kilometre lake that forms part of the iconic Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme. Its tranquil shores wrap around the township of Khancoban, which was established in 1949 to support the workers who built one of Australia's greatest engineering achievements.

At just 298 metres above sea level, Khancoban offers a unique contrast to the alpine lakes of the Snowy Mountains. Rolling farmland meets rugged mountain scenery, creating spectacular views in every season. Spring brings colourful wildflowers, while autumn transforms the landscape with vibrant shades of gold, orange and crimson, making it a favourite destination for photographers and nature lovers alike.
