Jazz Mass: Bob Sedegreen and Amelia Evans Quartet

6 The Close Wangaratta Victoria

Award-winning jazz vocalist Amelia Evans is one of Melbourne's rising stars.

With a love for storytelling via improvisation, Amelia is recognized for her breathtaking vocal virtuosity and ability to capture an audience with her authenticity and honesty. A finalist in the 2020 Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues National Jazz Awards, Amelia has performed with the likes of Terri-Lyne Carrington, James Morrison and Linda Oh, collaborated with pianist Bob Sedergreen on her debut album The First Song, and won a score of awards including the 2017 Generations In Jazz Vocal Scholarship.

Following the warm reception awarded to Annemarie Sharry at last year's Wangaratta Jazz gospel mass Bob has decided to work with Amelia and introduce a more eclectic program including gospel songs by Fontella Bass, Reverend Milton Brunsen, as well as traditional artists like Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Odetta and shock and horror even a Beatles song.

Bob Sedergreen is a name synonymous with The Wangaratta Jazz Festival be it as a performer with a plethora of groups or as a Jazz educator and a judge at the Jazz piano awards. He also has the honour of performing at the Jazz mass with two iconic gospel Queens, being Judy Jacques and Kerri Simpson.
