The Benalla Yarn Bombers' annual community yarn bombing event transforms parts of Benalla into a vibrant outdoor gallery of colour, creativity and community spirit.

Each year, local volunteers spend months knitting, crocheting and crafting hundreds of handmade pieces that are installed around the town, covering trees, bollards and pergolas with imaginative textile art.

Preparation for the event welcomes participants of all ages and skill levels, from experienced fibre artists to beginners learning their first stitches. Many of the displays reflect a chosen theme, bringing colour and joy to everyday places. The installation encourages residents and visitors to explore Benalla on foot, discovering unique artworks throughout the town.

Beyond the visual appeal, the Yarn Bombers promote social connection, creativity and wellbeing. Regular crafting sessions provide opportunities for friendship, skill sharing and community involvement, while the annual installation showcases the remarkable contribution of volunteers.

The event has become a much-anticipated feature of Benalla's community calendar, attracting visitors from across the region who come to admire the colourful displays and photograph the temporary artworks. By combining public art with community participation, the Benalla Yarn Bombers demonstrate how creativity can enliven public spaces, celebrate local identity and bring people together in a warm, inclusive and distinctly Benalla tradition.

Participating or observing this fabulous event will bring great joy to all.
